Introduction

German regulations requires providers to always send a valid Caller ID on outbound calls. If a PBX behind a trunk is not configured correctly, or does not strictly follow the SIP standard, it can send a Caller ID that is incorrect. This can cause calls to fail or lead to problems further along the call path.

The Default Verified Number makes sure this never stops a call. If a German call arrives with a Caller ID that is not valid, Kwebbl automatically replaces it with a verified number, so the call can continue and stays compliant.

In this guide you will learn how the feature works and how to set the Default Verified Number for a whole company and for a single trunk.

How it works

The Default Verified Number only applies to calls with a German Caller ID. The check works as follows:

  • If the Caller ID is valid, nothing changes. The number is never rewritten.

  • If the Caller ID is not valid, it is replaced by a verified number from the Company Panel.

  • Calls with a non-German Caller ID are never changed.

The rewrite happens in the background. Neither the caller nor the person being called notices anything.

Which number is used

When a Caller ID is not valid, Kwebbl looks for a replacement in this order:

  1. The Default Verified Number set on the trunk, if present.

  2. The Default Verified Number set for the company, if present.

  3. A valid number assigned to the company. This is picked automatically and cannot be chosen by the customer.

If none of these are available, the call can fail.

Set the Default Verified Number for the whole company

Use this setting to define one number for the complete company. It applies to all trunks that do not have their own Default Verified Number.

  1. Open the Company Panel.

  2. Click Settings in the left menu.

  3. Find the field Default Verified Number.

  4. Click the dropdown and select one of your numbers.

Set the Default Verified Number for a single trunk (optional)

Use this setting if a company has multiple trunks with different numbers. The number you select here applies to this trunk only and takes priority over the company setting.

  1. Open the Company Panel.

  2. Go to Devices and click Trunks.

  3. Select the trunk you want to edit to open Edit trunk.

  4. In Step 1: Trunk settings, scroll to the field Default Verified Number.

  5. Click the dropdown and select one of your numbers.

  6. Click Next Step.

  7. Complete Step 2 and click Save.

Recommendations

For the most reliable setup, we recommend:

  • Setting a company-wide Default Verified Number for every company with German numbers.

  • Setting a trunk-specific number only where a trunk uses its own, different numbers.

If you still see calls failing after configuring this, check that your PBX sends a Caller ID that belongs to the company.
